According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiovascular disease has one of the greatest cost-burdens in healthcare and has been identified as the most common cause of death in 2019. According to the GBD survey, the total number of deaths caused by heart disease was 8.9M in females and 9.6M in males. This accounted for approximately one-third of the global death toll that year.
There were more than 6M cardiovascular-disease related deaths among patients aged 30-70 years, of which 1.2M deaths accounted for patients under 50 years of age. The number of cardiovascular deaths was reported to be the highest in China, followed by India, Russia, the United States, and Indonesia.
Cardiovascular diseases can largely be classified into 7 categories, with common symptoms including fatigue, chest pain, shortness of breath, and rapid heartbeat (tachycardia). Some of the risk factors include high blood pressure, abnormal blood cholesterol levels, a family history of heart disease, diabetes, and obesity.
Currently, REDNVIA is focusing on research and development of treatment for Calcific Aortic Valve Disease (CAVD).
